Data Cache Services offloads processing from operational systems by replicating data — especially important for mainframes. The data source or its subset (the master) is copied into Data Cache Services (as a replicate). Unlike the snapshot techniques often used in a data warehouse environment, Data Cache Services monitors changes being made to the master and stores them in a journal. You decide how often the journal is written to the replicate, keeping master and replicate closely synchronised according to your business requirements. You can run analytics or other applications against the replicate for real-time answers, while keeping other transactional operations productive.
